about

Thanks to my good friend Iggy for letting me use her homemade 4 string mini banjolele to lay down the foundation for this track. I have taken the time to build my own mini 4 string banjo in order to live up to this composition.

Sample reference:
I was born in Belarus and this country along with others in eastern and northern Europe, was heavily radiated by the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster in 1986, a year prior to my birth. There is much controversy over the event itself and in the effects that the radiation had on people. The amount of radiation that was released from the accident was hundreds of times more than Hiroshima and Nagasaki put together and about 60% of that fallout landed in Belarus. The samples are of news casts shortly after the accident (Belorussian and American)

This song is a tribute to my grandfather who I sang with as a very young boy. He was a carpenter and a bard.

Written by SwampWolf.
Recorded in Iggy's and/then SwampWolf's bedroom.

lyrics

Vot ya radilsa v Belaruse.
Z dedooshkam tseloy dien pel.
Nas Chernobyl Veihbrasil.
No nas etat mir on palewbeel.

Translation:

Here, I was born in Belarus.
Sang all day with my Grandfather.
Chernobyl threw us out,
But the world loved us.

about

SwampWolf Vancouver, British Columbia

Born in the irradiated bogs of Eastern Europe and then again as a throat singer under the full moon, he forges weeping and laughter into a contradictory yet harmonious nature. Eerie and crawling, yet sharp and quick, his sound is holistic and relentless, invoking various genres such as blues, folk, gypsy, jazz, electronic, indie. He is a multi-instrumentalist and produces all of his own music. ... more
